With childhood obesity on the rise life expectancy rates are expected by fall from 77.6 years to 72.6 by the middle of this century. The "New England Journal of Medicine, March 17, 2005 reports:

- - As many as 30 percent of U.S. children are overweight

- - Childhood obesity has more than doubled within the past 25 years.

- - Within the past 20 years, childhood diabetes has increased 10-fold.

These life expectancy rates were not based on historical trends. The researchers made their projections based on today's younger generation by comparing the death rates of obese people to those of healthy weight people.
